A Growth Plan replaces the old Business Plan and adds a touch of strategic planning. It challenges the entrepreneur by asking many questions. For instance, how can your small business deliver great results with limited resources and the least amount of risk?

A growth plan is the strategic tool that an entrepreneur develops to define the most feasible path from A to B and the contingencies needed to increase the likelihood of success and to ensure a reasonable balance between opportunity and risk on the journey. In this interactive workshop, Jerry Knotts, "Entrepreneur Whisperer", will explain how to construct a solid growth plan and the rules of engagement that an entrepreneur needs to understand to line up resources, partnerships, and support.

Jerry Knotts is the President/CEO of the California Coast Venture Forum and President of J.E. Knotts & Associates. He has more than 30 years successful experience in small, medium and large sized defense and aerospace low and hi-technology companies. He served as Vice-President/General Manager, Defense Electronics Division, California Microwave and Vice-President, American Nucleonics Corporation. He serves as a member of the Board of Counselors, California Lutheran University School of Business; a member of the SoCalBio Investor Conference Company/Company Screening Board; and a mentor for the LARTA Institute. Jerry has notable achievements in general business management, strategic planning, and business development. As a consultant, he serves on numerous corporation boards and provides strategic and financial planning services to small and medium sized companies. His academic background includes a BSEE (Electrical Engineering) from Penn State University; an MBA from Auburn; and graduate of the Defense Systems Management College (DSMC), Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF), and Air War College. Jerry is a Senior Life Member of the IEEE and a registered Professional Engineer.

In the setting of the CLU’s new Huddle Entrepreneurial Center, a little heaven for local startups, you get a chance to be in a place with an entrepreneurship spirit and in a group of likeminded technical professionals.

Zak Cohen, our emcee, will explore with you how long it takes to go around the world whether you are a human or an electron or a piece of data.

Be ready for another humorous and thought provoking presentations.

This will be a great place for young engineering professionals to mix with seasoned IEEE engineers. Dress code is relaxed and casual.

We believe in amplifying the impact of our events. We will collect donated items that can be used to elevate the technical literacy and strategic thinking in young children (items such as books, Rubik cubes, number books, abacus, etc.). Abstract
Building on the success of Curiosity's landing, NASA announced plans for a new robotic science rover set to launch in 2020, based on the Curiosity design. The proposed 2020 rover mission is part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program, a long-term effort of robotic exploration of the red planet. Designed to advance high-priority science goals for Mars exploration, the mission would address key questions about the potential habitability of the rover’s landing site and directly search for signs of ancient life on Mars. The mission would also provide opportunities to gather knowledge and demonstrate technologies that address the challenges of future human expeditions to Mars. Dr. Bass will speak with us on this exciting new chapter of Mars exploration.

About the Speaker
Dr. Deborah Bass is currently the Manager for the Mission Systems Engineering Section at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory where she and her team focus on making spacecraft more user-friendly.  Dr. Bass received her bachelor's degree in Geology from the University of Pennsylvania, and her PhD in Planetary Geology from UCLA. She has conducted independent research on the Martian water cycle, focusing on surface-atmosphere interactions. While a post-doc at SwRI San Antonio, Dr. Bass was involved with the ill-fated Mars Polar Lander and also the highly successful Cassini mission. When she joined JPL in 2001, she acted as the Science Operations System Engineer and later Deputy Science Team Chief for the Spirit and Opportunity rovers.  After Spirit and Opportunity's prime missions, Dr. Bass moved to the Phoenix Mars Lander Project where she was appointed Deputy Project Scientist.  Dr. Bass has spent time in Mars programmatics, preparing and politicking for the future of Mars exploration. She was recently assigned to the 2020 Mars Rover in the capacity of Deputy Project Scientist. As the M2020 Deputy Project Scientist, she worked help to stabilize the first phase of Mars Sample Return by participating in the mission that will generate a storage "cache" of returnable rocks.
