Local IEEE Fellow to be Featured at Upcoming WebinarsIEEE Fellow and Buenaventura Section member Dr. S.K. Ramesh will be presenting at upcoming webinars this month. Registration is required. Click on the event titles below to register. • May 5, 10 AM PDT: IEEE UNED Student Branch (National
Distance Education University of Spain) We are witnessing an extraordinary test of the human spirit the past few months as governments and institutions worldwide take steps to protect people and prevent the spread of the global pandemic resulting from COVID-19. With the switch to telework and telehealth, the technologies created by IEEE members are clearly making a difference, and will continue to play an important role in the new world economy when we emerge from this pandemic. This presentation will address some of the educational resources available through IEEE to keep our members connected, engaged, and supported – now and in the future. Programs such as EPICS in IEEE, and IEEE’s Humanitarian Activities bring together students, NGO’s, and professionals to address challenges in their local communities through innovative technological solutions. You can make a difference in your community by serving IEEE in volunteer leadership roles that enhance your professional development and leads to fulfilling careers. As I reflect on my association with IEEE over the past 38 years I can say unequivocally that the values that I have learned are the ones that drive me every single day: To be “Inclusive, Collaborative, Accountable, Resilient, and Ethical”. Simply put “I CARE” and I know that is true for IEEE members everywhere. There has never been a better time to share, learn, and grow.
IEEE YESIST12 Maker Fair Team is delighted to present a webinar on "Inspire and Engage the Engineers of Tomorrow with Assistive Technology Engineering" by Dr. S.K. Ramesh in collaboration with IEEE Brand Ambassadors Community and IEEE SSIT Madras section. Locally, regionally, nationally and globally, special-needs populations are increasing not only in number but also in the complexity of their needs. As a result, the demand for master’s-level trained practitioners in assistive and recuperative technologies and services has never been greater. What has been lacking – until now – is a program that enables students who are focused on the engineering, design and manufacture of assistive technology devices to study and collaborate with students whose focus is on assistive technology assessment, advocacy and counseling, i.e., the "human services" side of the equation. California State University Northridge (CSUN) has created a unique interdisciplinary program that addresses this need CSUN’s Assistive Technology Engineering master’s program is linked to the CSUN master’s program in Assistive Technology and Human Services. Because these new programs were conceived and developed simultaneously to work synergistically, students in the Assistive Technology Engineering program – benefit from an exceptional opportunity to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the needs of end-users as well as the wide variety of environments in which assistive technology devices must function. Graduates from the program enjoy significant professional competitive advantages that stem from being better prepared to not only create appropriate and effective products but also interact with those who assess and counsel clients and make assistive technology recommendations and decisions. This talk will cover the development of the Master’s degree program in Assistive Technology Engineering with examples of applied research projects that inspired and motivated the faculty to develop this innovative and interdisciplinary degree program.
Ramesh is an IEEE Fellow recognized for "contributions to entrepreneurship in engineering education", and founding Director of CSU Northridge’s internationally recognized AIMS2 program (www.ecs.csun.edu/aims2) that mentors and supports Latino/Latina students and underrepresented minorities in engineering. His many recognitions include the John Guarrera Engineering Educator of the Year, William Johnson International award for leadership and contributions to the profession, and the IEEE Region 6 Community Service award. Ramesh has served on the Boards of IEEE and ABET, leading volunteers and staff with shared strategic goals, measurable outcomes, and transparent fiscal leadership. He is presently a candidate for the position of 2021 IEEE President-Elect. The presenters will discuss and offer tips on how certain corporate challenges can be overcome with modern-day solutions to help you cultivate and grow your company’s emerging talent into leadership roles. Brought to you by IEEE Educational Activities and Rutgers Business School Executive Education.
As school closings around the world have forced academic institutions to quickly transition their curriculums to support distance learning, educators moved to adapt as quickly as possible without the benefit of the usual planning time, resources and tools typically needed to optimize such a transition. In this webinar that covers the roles and perspectives of a librarian, professor and the publisher, we’ll discuss best practices, ideas, tools and resources needed for an institution to successfully transition a e-curriculum to better support distance learners.
In this webinar, drawing on relevant examples, San Murugesan will examine: How are IT, AI, ML and other technologies helping in detection and containment of the coronavirus and responding to the COVID-19? How are these technologies enabling several industries to continue to perform their activities and services, in new ways? What innovations had this epidemic resulted in? How has IT responded to sudden explosion in demands on it? What were the security and other risks IT and businesses faced in this crisis? Post COVID-19 crisis, what would be the new normal and the opportunities for IT?
