Spring Section Mixer and Expert Panel EventThe IEEE Buenaventura Section spring mixer was held at on Thursday, March 28 the Hub101. Operated by Cal Lutheran University in Westlake Village, CA, Hub101 offers coworking, community, and mentorship for entrepreneurs and small business owners to start, grow, and scale their startups with the help of mentors, coaches and service providers. The 2019 IEEE Buenaventura Project of the Year Award was presented to Eric Thompson, Flight Operations Manager at Aerovironment for the assistance he brought to the Park Rangers. Eric Thompson helped assess the fire damages caused by the Woosley fire with the Quantix drone developed by Aerovironment for precision agriculture monitoring. Our panelists were: Mathew Carathedathu, Object Tracking Developer at Aptiv, designs algorithms supporting the artificial intelligence embedded in automated and autonomous self-guided systems. Mathew brought insights into emulating human intelligence. Murtaza Mogri has worked on optogenetics to study specific neural circuits that play a role in the treatment effects in deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease. Murtaza is the Dir. of Business Development and Market Access at V-Wave, a developer of percutaneous implantable devices for treating patients with chronic Heart Failure. John Rivera is the Director of R&D at Boston Scientific working in the field of neurostimulation. John brings a very engaging perspective on deep brain stimulation (DBS) and new therapies. S.K. Ramesh, Prof. in Engineering and Computer Science, former Dean of Engineering at CSUN, has held several leadership roles with IEEE with the mission to advance technology for humanity. He spotlighted some of the faculty/students projects involving brain-computer initiatives and shared thoughts on the role that engineering professional organizations can play in the journey or reverse engineering the brain. |
